Woman of Style: Christina Aguilera

Over the years, I’ve loved watching Christina Aguilera’s image. She’s an experimental sex symbol a la Madonna, and even though many of her styles bear that influence, she has definitely established a look that is her own. Whether it be her racy new video for “Not Myself Tonight,” her ravishing red lips in “Candyman,” or her raunchy dance moves in “Dirrty”, I always know when I’m watching Christina.

And of course, I love her makeup! In her “Fighter” video, bold lashes mimic the look of moth’s wings, giving the video a strong aesthetic that is beautiful and haunting. “Dirrty” is a video I reference a lot with my personal makeup style. I’m a huge fan of smoldering eyes, and Christina rocked carbon black smoky eyes with flawless tan skin and a baby pink pout in that video. It was to die for. She is also a lover of red lips, which she has adorned in several videos as well as on the red carpet. This has given her dirty girl image a little Marilyn appeal, and I consider it her trademark.

You can find Christina in red lipstick most recently in her video for “Not Myself Tonight,” which debuted on April 30, 2010. The video, directed by the legendary Hype Williams (think TLC, “No Scrubs”), is a diamond-studded latex and bondage freak show that somehow still looks deliciously glossy. Watching her tiny figure bust through some sexy choreography while amply sporting skin-tight latex, I remember that this woman is a mom. With that body. Can you believe it? Whatever diet she’s on, sign me up!
