With so many companies pledging to be animal-friendly, it’s easy to assume that most of the products we use daily aren’t tested on animals. As a proud father of two teacup Chihuahuas and a Pomeranian, I can’t imagine a company that could allow such unethical behavior to take place. To my recent surprise, many basic household names like Clorox, Colgate, and Windex are still listed on PETA’s caringconsumer.com list of companies that DO test on animals. Some of the largest contributors listed in cosmetics were:
Proctor & Gamble (Always, Clairol, Downy, Head & Shoulders, Max Factor, Olay, Pantene)
Johnson & Johnson (Aveeno, Clean & Clear, Lubriderm, Neutrogena, ROC)
Schering-Plough (Bain de Soleil, Coppertone)
L’Oreal (Biotherm, Garnier, Georgio Armani, Lancome, Matrix Essentials, Maybelline, Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Redken)
Unilever (Axe, Dove, Ponds, Suave, Sunsilk)
These companies are not required by law to test on animals and are doing so at their own accord. Shame on you! To view the entire list, head to www.caringconsumer.com. There you can support cruelty-free companies and charities or make a donation to save laboratory animals from needless suffering. We love this website!
Givegoodface.com actively supports cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics and skincare. Animal testing is SO faux pas!
